Flirt Alert

The good girl’s always got the tricks so get ready to rock the part like Christina Aguilera in ‘I Am A Good Girl’. Prime the eyes using MAC’s Fresco Rose Paint Pot. Then add Pink Venus eyeshadow on the lid. Darken the crease with MAC’s Bronze eye shadow. Highlight the brow bone with an oyster pink eye shadow. Apply MAC’s Dainty blush on the apples of the cheek. Highlight the cheekbones with MAC’s Silver Dusk iridescent loose dusting powder. Line the lips with MAC’s Soar lip pencil and fill in the lips with MAC’s Blankety lipstick. Put a dot of MAC’s Cultured lipglass on the center of the lips. For some extra fluff add lashes with pearl tips and complete the look with MAC’s Superslick liner in Marked for Glamor.

Throw on your dancing shoes and prance away!

The Temptress

The movie of the season ‘Burlesque’ has sparked the retro make up trends. Tease everyone this season with the Dita Von Teese look. Groom your brows and darken them with short strokes of MAC’s Spiked crayon for well-defined arched brows. Prime your eyes with MAC Bare Study Paint Pot. Then apply MAC Platinum pigment with a setting medium on one half of the eye which is closer to the nose. Leave the inner corner and outer corner bare for other colors. Take MAC’s Carbon eye shadow and smoke out the outer half. Blend the silver and the black using a bit of MAC print shadow. Apply MAC’s Nylon shadow beneath the brow bone to highlight the area and in the inner corner of the eyes. Line the watersil with MAC’s Fascinating pencil. Don some ‘cat eye’ liner with MAC’s Blacktrack fluidline and MAC’s Black Zoomlash mascara after curling the lashes with the Shuemara lash culer. Flush the cheeks with MAC’s Pinch of Peach blush to define the cheekbones. Line the lips with MAC Cherry Lip Pencil. Then fill in the lips with MAC Red lipstick. Dab MAC’s Bold and Brash Lipglass from the Dare to Wear collection on the center of the lips for a 3D effect. For the more daring, add a beauty spot high on the cheekbone for that extra touch.

Now get ready to put on a show!

Disco Glam for NYE

Why wait for Spring 2011 to try on Gile’s coquettish but bohemian look from Fashion Week! Glam it up on New Year’s eve with glitter and fun colors to have the time of your life and put the seventies to shame. Pack on MAC Pro Gold Glitter on your eyelid using a setting medium. Then contour around the gold glitter in a ‘C’ shape with MAC Pro Pink Glitter and cover the brows.

Bold it up because you’re beautiful and you plan to celebrate that on New Year’s Eve.

Black Swan

Natalie Portman’s make up from her film, ‘The Black Swan’, made waves this Halloween. Here I have made up a client in this special look. Start the make up using MAC’s Skin Brightening Serum all over the face. Then use MAC’s Strobe Liquid to add a glow to the skin. Use a foundation that is two shades lighter than your natural skin tone all over the face and body. Then draw two wings around the eyes with MAC’s Blacktrack fluidline. Make feathery soft edges to the wings to add some drama. Fill in the wings with MAC’s Carbon shadow. Glide on some glittery streaks to the wings to add texture. Apply MAC Diva lipstick over MAC Burgundy Lip Pencil for a strong and defined lip. Then take a fan brush and contour lightly under the cheekbones with MAC Mocha Blush to complete the look.

Come on ballerinas, now take us to your dark side!

Femme Fatale

When you’re in the mood to mix up innocent eyes with a dark mouth, or are dressed in minks and pinks but want to look vampy, try this femme fatale look to spice things up. Apply a light colored primer like the MAC Painterly Pot all over your eyelid, pushing the product all the way up to the brow bone. Then dab on some MAC Aqua shadow all over the eye socket and blend it upwards till the color reaches the brows. Leave the face pale with no blush or contouring. Finally paint the lips with MAC Media or In The Prowl lipstick to complete the look.

Watch out folks…we’ve heard that looks can kill!

‘Plum’ It Up!

Shades of plum and purples are the ‘it’ colors this season. Berry hot colors are being offered by MAC such as Violetta and Amorous lipsticks, Breath of Plum blush and Vile Violet shadow from the new Venomous Villains collection. The Desi Make-Up Diva trick is not to wear plum or purple on more than one facial feature so if you’re going for smokey purple eyes then leave the rest of the face soft and simple. Deep purple-browns and aubergines made a strong statement on the runway for designers Narendra Kumar and Antonio Berardi at fashion week. As trends change, we must keep up with the times!

She’s Got the Look!

The 60’s Brigitte Bardot look is back with a vengeance. Top the bouffant updo with smokey eyes and a double liner – apply one line on the upper lash line and the other tracing the curve of the crease till it blends outward and upwards with the bottom line. For some extra oomph, accessorize with a thick hair band and fill in your eyebrows for more definition. Get ready to rock the house with this glitzy and glamorous look!

Dotted and Lined

Ready for a simple and effortless look that is complete on its own? Try wearing a big red dot bindi with bare eyes and crimson lips. This traditional Indian look has recently been brought to the fashion forefront by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Red does wonders for the desi complexion and adds color and pizzaz to a simple outfit. For a more severe look don a big maroon dot bindi and vampy lip color. Go sexy with this minimal new trend that will bring out your inner beauty and style.

For you feline beauties who want to purr and pout this fall, clap your hands for the 50’s cat eye make-up is back in a big way! Wear thick black liner and wing it up high for that extra edge. Throw on a fur jacket and get ready to meow away!

‘Desi Make-Up Diva’

This entry marks the launch of my blog, ‘Desi Make-Up Diva’. I created this blog to keep the urban global desi updated on the latest make-up trends, celebrity looks, hot make-up products, make-over tips and more…

This season I will be passionately pushing for my readers to explore simple but glam looks to prep up their style. From smokey eyes and nude lips, to big red bindis with crimson lips, thick winged eyeliner to a no-makeup bare look, I will be covering it all.

Get started this September with smokey eyes. Instead of going for the usual black shadows, opt for greys or blues. For the more daring, use bright gem colored pigments like purples and greens. And now for some celebrity name dropping….Fatima Bhutto was spotted at Asia Society looking quite glam with smokey eyes and killer black patent stilletos for her book reading ‘Songs of Blood and Sword’.

Stay tuned for the red bindi trend alert revived by Sabyasachi.
